UKIAH, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in Northern California say deputies doing a traffic stop in Ukiah found a woman in the car who had been kidnapped and raped and arrested two suspects.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said deputies stopped the Honda Civic Saturday for missing a license plate and saw a bruised woman in the back seat who was shaking and crying.

The office says the 34-year-old woman told deputies the driver, 33-year-old Thao Vang, and his companion, 33-year-old Christine Maxwell, had kidnapped her in Sacramento on Sept. 10 and taken her to home where she was physically abused and raped by Vang numerous times. They then forced her to travel with them to Ukiah.

It’s not immediately known whether they have retained attorneys who could comment on their behalf.
