PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Police in Portland, Maine, say a 63-year-old man has died from injuries he suffered in an August assault, and a man has been charged with murder stemming from his death.

Police say Rodney Cleveland suffered the injuries on Aug. 3 and died on Sunday at Maine Medical Center. He had been treated at the hospital since the assault.

Police say an autopsy determined Cleveland died from blunt force trauma and his manner of death was ruled a homicide. They charged 62-year-old Eugene Meserve with murder at Cumberland County Jail. Meserve has been in custody since Aug. 3, when he was charged with elevated aggravated assault.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Meserve was represented by an attorney. A listed phone number was disconnected.
