SWANSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in North Carolina have charged a man in the death of a neighbor.

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says in a news release that deputies and Swansboro police officers responding to a 911 call on Monday found the body of 61-year-old Kerry Frank Howard inside the home of Robert Ortiz III. Oritz was standing in the front yard when officers arrived.

The sheriff’s office said deputies found stab wounds, but an autopsy would be performed on Wednesday to determine how Howard died. Investigators said Howard lived in a mobile home park next to Ortiz’s home.

The 49-year-old Ortiz is charged with an open count or murder and is jailed without bond. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, and it’s not known if he has an attorney.
