DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Police in North Carolina say a woman died when she got out of her broken down SUV and an impaired driver hit it.
Durham police tell news outlets that 35-year-old Leydi Eliane Salazar-Camargo got out of the vehicle on Tuesday morning and went to the front to check on the problem.
Police said a car driven by 48-year-old Antonio Demetrius Powell rear-ended Salazar-Camargo’s SUV and pushed it over her. She died at the scene.
Investigators said Powell, who suffered minor injuries, was charged with driving while impaired, driving without insurance and displaying a revoked license tag.
It was the second such accident in as many days. The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a man was hit and killed on Interstate 40/85 on Monday as he changed a tire.
