HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - Two people accused of attacking and seriously injuring a New Jersey state police trooper during a motor vehicle stop will remain jailed until their trial on aggravated assault charges.
A judge issued the ruling Friday during a hearing for Alecia Jones, of Hillside, and Tyson Stamper, of Elizabeth. It’s not known if either one has retained an attorney.
The pair allegedly attacked trooper Nelson Campoverde after he stopped them Sept. 14 on Route 80 in Hackensack. They allegedly confronted him after he issued Jones a speeding ticket and punched the trooper repeatedly until some passing motorists came to his aid.
Campoverde suffered broken facial bones and underwent two surgeries to have plates inserted in his face and his eyes realigned. He was released from the hospital Thursday.
