EAST POINT, Ga. (AP) - Two people who confronted men they believed were breaking into cars have been shot in Georgia.

News outlets report that the shooting Monday afternoon in an East Point parking lot left one victim critically wounded. The other victim is stable. Capt. Allyn Glover told WSB-TV the victims got out of a pickup truck to confront two men in a black car.

Police say the theft suspects shot first. The victims then shot back. Glover says the two suspects drove away and haven’t been captured.

One of the victims went into a nearby home improvement store for help. Glover says that person was treated inside the store. The business closed early for the day after the shooting.

Officers are checking surveillance video to track down the suspects.
