LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - A 41-year-old man has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the 2003 shooting death of a man in Laramie.

Fidel Serrano entered the plea Tuesday as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. A first-degree murder charge was dropped in exchange for Serrano pleading guilty to manslaughter, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.

Albany County Attorney Peggy Trent told the Laramie Boomerang that the family of the victim, Ramon Galvan-Morales, was agreeable to the plea agreement, which does not recommend a prison sentence.

District Judge Tori Kricken will decide on a sentence at a later date.

Authorities say Serrano killed Galvan-Morales on May 12, 2003, a couple of days after the two had gotten into a fight at a dance in Cheyenne.
