HARVEST, Ala. (AP) - A guard at an Alabama prison has been accused of trying to smuggle drugs and synthetic urine into the facility.
The Alabama Department of Corrections says 39-year-old Travis Wales, of Ardmore, faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance and promoting prison contraband after a canine detection unit found a Subutex pill used for pain or treatment of opiate addiction, a bag containing methamphetamine and a bottle of U-pass - a synthetic urine substitute on his person.
Wales resigned his position at Limestone Correctional Facility in Harvest at the time of his arrest Tuesday. He had been employed with the department since 2007.
It was unknown whether Wales is represented by an attorney. A telephone listing for Wales was unavailable.
