JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - A 26-year-old Joplin man has pleaded guilty to a fatal shooting last year at a Joplin motel.

The Joplin Globe reports that that Kosaksy Phillip pleaded guilty Thursday in Jasper County Circuit Court to second-degree murder in the shooting death of 33-year-old Diamond Bradley. In exchange for his plea, first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges were dropped. Prosecutors also agreed to a prison term of no more than 20 years.

Prosecutors say Phillip shot Bradley four times Aug. 29, 2018, in a room at the Economy Inn & Suites after the two exchanged words. Bradley died later at a Joplin hospital. Police say Phillip fled, but was arrested later when he returned to the motel.

Phillip’s sentencing has been set for Nov. 4.
