LONG BEACH, N.J. (AP) - A longtime southern New Jersey police officer who accessed information from a secure departmental computer for personal reasons has been sentenced to a year of probation.
Gerard Traynor, a sergeant with the Long Beach Township force, received the sentence Thursday. He had pleaded guilty in July to computer criminal activity.
The 53-year-old Traynor, who also is a practicing attorney, was suspended from the force following his arrest in April. He agreed to forfeit his police job as part of his guilty plea.
Traynor had served with the Long Beach police department for 24 years.
Authorities have disclosed few details about the allegations against Traynor, saying only that the charges resulted from an extensive investigation by the Internal Affairs Unit in the prosecutor’s office.
