ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - A property manager at a northern New Jersey apartment complex stands accused of stealing more than $120,000 from an elderly tenant’s bank account to pay for lavish vacations and designer clothes.
Union County prosecutors say 33-year-old Natalia Calderon-Diaz, of Elizabeth, is charged with theft. It’s not known if she’s retained an attorney.
Authorities say the now 89-year-old victim lives alone at the Linden Arms complex in Elizabeth and has no immediate family.
Calderon-Diaz allegedly withdrew $122,482 from the victim’s account without her knowledge or permission. She allegedly spent the money on trips to destinations such as Las Vegas and Florida, high-end designer clothing and other items.
Authorities say the thefts occurred from December 2017 through June 2019.
Calderon-Diaz could face up to 10 years in prison if she’s convicted.
