SOMERS POINT, N.J. (AP) - The death of a man found beaten inside his southern New Jersey home will be investigated as a homicide, authorities said.

Somers Hickman, 67, was found around 10 p.m. Monday by Somers Point police, who had gone to the residence after his neighbors asked them to conduct a welfare check, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

An autopsy determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma, but further details were not disclosed. It also wasn’t clear if anyone else lived in the home.

A motive for the attack also remains under investigation.
