LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police fatally shot a shotgun-wielding suspect when he allegedly tried to steal to steal another driver’s vehicle, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said.

The shooting occurred Tuesday after a patrol officer began following a sedan being driven erratically on Interstate 15 and then determining that it had been stolen previously, police said.

According to police, the male driver of the stolen sedan continued driving erratically in the various parts of the city while being followed by police.

The sedan eventually stopped and the driver then tried to commit the carjacking while pointing a shotgun at the other driver, police said.

Officers who were following the stolen sedan intervened and shot the suspect, police said.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital. His name and age weren’t released.
