PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - A man armed with a gun was shot and killed by police on a street in a northern New Jersey city, the state Attorney General’s office said.
The confrontation started shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday, when Paterson officers responded to reports of a man with a gun on a city street.
When they arrived on scene, they found Luan Agoli, 42, of Pequannock, holding a handgun and walking in the area, authorities said. Agoli then ignored repeated directives from police to drop the gun and continued walking in and out of the roadway. raising the gun in the air at times.
The standoff went on for several minutes before police shot Agoli, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported in the shooting, which remains under investigation.
