MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - A man who was sought as a suspect in a fire and explosion was shot and killed during a confrontation with police in Manchester, New Hampshire, the attorney general’s office said.

Police responded to a pickup truck that belonged to Carl Manning, 62, of Manchester, about 6 p.m. Sunday. Manning was a suspect in a suspicious fire at a house and explosion earlier Sunday, the attorney general’s office said in a statement. He also was accused of violating a protective and stalking order in an unrelated case.

As police approached Manning’s truck, they saw him inside. He appeared to be armed, the statement said. He was shot a short time later. He died despite getting medical assistance, the statement said.

No one else was hurt.
