Sheriff: 3 arrested for probation violation after car crash

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Three people were arrested for violating probation after their vehicle crashed into a Florida home, authorities said.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Brian Bruchey said the crash happened early Sunday morning, news outlets reported.

Bruchey said Sarena Stokes, 42, was driving a 1999 Buick sedan with two other passengers when her car left the roadway and crashed into a house. It wasn’t immediately clear how Stokes lost control of the car.

Bruchey said the car drove into an unoccupied bedroom. No one inside the house was injured. Stokes was treated for a broken arm.

Residents tried to keep the Stokes and her passenger, Donald Reams, 47, at the scene but the pair pushed past the residents and fled, Bruchey said. The third occupant, John Sumner, 51, remained at the scene.

Stokes and Reams later returned and all three were arrested, Bruchey said. Stokes was charged with third-degree leaving the scene of a crash with injury, knowingly driving while license suspended/revoked and violation of probation.

Reams was charged with two misdemeanor counts of battery and probation violation. Sumner was also charged with violating his probation because he was outside past his court-ordered curfew.

It’s unclear whether the trio have attorneys who could comment on their behalf.
