NORTHFIELD, Vt. (AP) - A man whose wife died in a house fire in Vermont last week has succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Police Chief John Helfant confirmed Wednesday that Harvey Eastman, 70, of Northfield, died. His wife Barbara Eastman, 71, died in the fire from burns and smoke inhalation on April 2.

A concerned neighbor had entered the house and saved Harvey Eastman, who was then treated at University of Vermont Medical Center, police said. Fire officials found Barbara Eastman dead inside the home.

Officials believe the fire started in the chimney.
