FORSYTH, Ga. (AP) - Monroe County deputies found two wrecked cars and a man who was fatally shot on the side of a Georgia highway. Two others at the scene were jailed after speaking with them about what happened.
News outlets reported that the dead man, Michael High of Forsyth, had been called by his girlfriend, Cierra Bell, to pick her up after she went out to gamble with another man, Wendell Scott. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Anna Lewis said High, 35, traveled to Oglethorpe, a city located about 60 miles (97 kilometers) south of his home in Forsyth, to retrieve her.
But the couple argued on their way home, prompting Bell to get out and walk along the highway, Lewis said.
Scott, 38, encountered her and offered her a ride. High then rear-ended Scott’s car and ended up with his own car in a ditch. Then he got out and approached Scott, who shot him dead shortly after midnight on Sunday, Lewis said.
News outlets reported that Lewis said Scott, 38, and Bell, 26, both of Decatur, were booked into jail. It wasn’t clear if they have attorneys who could comment.
