PHOENIX (AP) - A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in west Phoenix, according to police.

They said Thursday that 42-year-old Robert Pena was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a weapon by a prohibited possessor.

Police said Pena also was identified as being involved with the homicide, but details weren’t immediately released.

An argument led to the shooting and Pena fled before officers arrived, police said.

Officers had responded to a home about a shooting Monday morning.

Witnesses told police they heard a shot fired and then saw people running from a house.

Police said 22-year-old Ana Vivian Cardenas was found inside the house and she had been shot.

Cardenas later was declared dead at the scene.

Her relationship with Pena wasn’t immediately clear and it wasn’t known Thursday if Pena had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
