SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Authorities on Tuesday released the name of a man shot and killed in Springfield last week, the city’s 18th homicide of the year.
Justin Rivera, 28, was one of two people shot at about 8:30 p.m. Friday in the city’s Forest Park neighborhood, according to a statement from the office of Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni. Police were alerted by ShotSpotter, the city’s automated gunfire detection system.
Rivera was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, where he later died, authorities said.
The other man was also taken to the hospital, but has not been cooperating with investigators, police said.
The shooting was one of five in a four-day span in the city that left one person dead and five others hurt, Masslive.com reported.
Rivera’s death was the 18th homicide of the year in Springfield and the second in November. There were 20 homicides in Springfield in 2019.
The shooting remains under investigation an no arrests have been announced.
