LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - An adult and a child have died in a Kentucky apartment fire that also injured a firefighter, authorities said.
The blaze was reported early Sunday morning at a three-story apartment building in Louisville, fire officials told news outlets. The bodies were found in an apartment on the first floor, Louisville Fire Lt. Col. Jim Frederick said. A firefighter was taken to the hospital for a minor ankle injury, he said.
There were smoke detectors in the complex, but it’s unclear if they were working, Maj. Bobby Cooper said.

Patrick Britt, who lives nearby, said he and a friend tried to help residents in the building.
“Me and my friend was busting out the windows just trying to get people out,” Britt said. “The people from the upper levels they were basically just tossing their kids down to the ground level just to get them out of the apartments before the rest of them caught on fire.”
The building had significant smoke and fire damage, fire officials said in a statement.
Investigators will try to determine the cause of the blaze.
