AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The state of Maine is inviting residents to try ice fishing for free this weekend.
The free weekend is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in which anyone can fish without a license. The only exception is that people whose license has been suspended or revoked are still not allowed.
February is a great month for new fishermen to try ice fishing, which is a centuries-old tradition in the Pine Tree State, officials said. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said anglers are likely to find good numbers of bass, pickerel and perch.
Maine authorities ask that new and experienced fishermen take appropriate safety precautions, especially on the ice.
