LeSean McCoy used to be one of the NFL’s premier running backs during his prime with the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills. Now as a bit player for the Kansas City Chiefs, he is no longer a must-start.

McCoy is a healthy scratch for Super Bowl LIV, the Chiefs revealed when they announced their inactives on Sunday.

The six-time Pro Bowler has never played for a team vying for a Super Bowl until this year, yet he will not make his first career Super Bowl appearance.

The Chiefs, a pass-heavy team, rely on Damien Williams as their lead back and Darwin Thompson as his backup.

McCoy, 31, signed with Kansas City after failing to make the Bills’ initial 53-man roster at the end of the preseason. The move reunited him with Andy Reid, his former coach in Philadelphia.

“Shady” was used as a change-of-pace option during the regular season, appearing in 13 games and rushing for 465 yards and four touchdowns along with one receiving touchdown.

He was active in the AFC divisional round when the Chiefs faced the Houston Texans, but he only played one snap before sitting out the AFC Championship Game against the Tennessee Titans.
