CHICOPEE, Mass. (AP) - Two Massachusetts State Troopers escaped serious injury early Saturday after a suspected drunk driver lost control of his vehicle and slammed into both of the troopers’ police vehicles as they were standing outside.
A state police dog inside one of the cruisers was transported to a veterinary hospital for an examination but did not suffer any serious injuries.
The incident happened shortly after midnight. The troopers were conducting an investigation of a suspected drug suspect along Route 91 in Chicopee when a Subaru Forester heading northbound collided with a vehicle in the middle lane. It then began rolling over and careening toward the two state police Ford Explorer Interceptors parked in the breakdown lane, striking both vehicles.
Two men who were were being invested on unrelated drug charges were in the back of one of the police vehicles. They were not injured in the crash.
The driver of the Subaru was identified as Ryan Churilo, 29, of East Windsor, Conn. He faces charges of operating under the influence of alcohol and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
