BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man authorities say was drunk when he rear-ended a state police cruiser last summer, injuring a trooper and two others, was charged Monday.
Joseph Buzzanca, 33, turned himself in and was charged with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, driving under the influence and other offenses in connection with the crash on Interstate 95 in Fairfield last June, state police said.
He was freed on $50,000 bail pending a Feb. 11 court date. It could not be determined if he has an attorney.
Buzzanca was speeding when he struck the rear of the cruiser, which had activated its emergency lights and stopped to assist a disabled vehicle in the early morning hours of June 16, police said.
The impact pushed the cruiser into the disabled car, injuring two occupants.
Trooper Gregory Sawicki was taken to the hospital with several serious injuries including a concussion and broken bones.
