ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - An accountant who pleaded guilty to taking thousands of dollars from two companies in Virginia has been ordered to serve jail time and pay restitution.
Amanda Jill Garrison, 40, was sentenced Tuesday on one count of embezzlement, The Roanoke Times reported. She had worked for Yellow Cab of Roanoke for nearly 20 years and also did accounting work for Roanoke Airport Transportation Services.
Garrison wrote 32 duplicate paychecks for herself, Roanoke deputy prosecutor Donald Wolthuis said. She has been ordered to pay more than $26,000 in restitution, plus about $10,000 in other fees as a part of a plea agreement, the Times reported. She’s already paid about $30,000 of that, records show.
Judge Chris Clemens sentenced Garrison to five years in jail, which will be suspended after she serves 30 days. Garrison will be allowed to report to jail at the end of the month and can serve her time at a minimum of one day per week, the Times reported.
