ALLIANCE, Neb. (AP) - A highway collision in the Nebraska Panhandle has claimed the life of one driver and seriously injured another.

The collision occurred around 6 p.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 385, just northwest of Alliance. A northbound car crossed the center line and rammed into an oncoming pickup truck, the Nebraska State Patrol said Tuesday.

The car driver died at the scene, the patrol said. He’s been identified as Bruce Engel, 68, who lived in Hemingford. The pickup driver was taken to Box Butte General Hospital before being taken to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. He’s been identified as Levi Clouse, 21, also of Hemingford.

It’s not clear what caused the car to cross into the pickup’s path, the patrol said.
