NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - A couple identified by authorities as the parents of a 3-month-old baby found dead in a North Las Vegas trash bin have been released from jail after prosecutors said they needed more time to prepare formal charges .
Raul Ramos, 52, and Adriana Hernandez, 32, had been arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse and destroying evidence.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the couple made their first court appearance Wednesday and that prosecutors asked for more time.
Judge Craig Newman of North Las Vegas Justice Court said he had to release the pair because there were no charges filed at their arraignment.
Police said the boy’s body was found Jan. 19 in a trash bin in an alley near a home where the couple lived until being evicted.
The child’s name and cause and manner of death have not been made public by the Clark County coroner’s office. Police said there were no obvious injuries on the body.
Police said the couple had two other children, a 2-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl, who were taken into Clark County Child Protective Services custody.
The neighborhood is about 9 miles (14.5 kilometers) north of the Las Vegas Strip.
