ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed two people to vacant seats in the Maryland General Assembly to represent Baltimore County.
Hogan announced the appointment of Shelly Hettleman to the state Senate on Thursday.
Hettleman had been serving as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates since 2015. She is filling a vacancy created by the departure of Robert Zirkin, who stepped down in December.

Hogan also announced the appointment of Sheila Ruth to the House. Ruth is a longtime Baltimore County activist. She will replace Charles Sydnor, who is now a senator.
Both appointments were made after recommendations from the Baltimore County Democratic Central Committee.
