YORK, Neb. (AP) - Two juvenile offenders were captured in nearby Hamilton County after one overpowered the driver of their transport van and stole it in York, police said.

The van had stopped Wednesday afternoon at a business in York when one of the teenage boys got free of his restraints, assaulted and overwhelmed the driver and took the van keys, police said.

The boy then drove himself and the other boy west out of York. Authorities used the private transport service van’s tracking device to maintain a watch on it. Hamilton County deputies stopped the van on U.S. Highway 34 and took both boys into custody.

The boys were then taken to their original destination, the Kearney Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center.

The boy who attacked the driver could face charges including theft, assault and kidnapping, York police said.

The names of those involved haven’t been released.
