OCALA, Fla. (AP) - A woman who crashed her SUV and a man who tried to help her both died in Florida, authorities said.

The woman was driving near Ocala when her vehicle struck a tree and burst into flames, the Florida Highway Patrol said. A man driving by in a water tanker truck stopped and began to spray the burning vehicle with water, but witnesses later told troopers that it wasn’t enough.

Before the tanker truck driver could help any further, he collapsed and died. Authorities weren’t sure what caused his death, the Ocala Star-Banner reported.

The woman driving the SUV and her dog both died, FHP said.

Marion County Fire Rescue arrived at the crash scene four minutes after it was reported.

Officials didn’t immediately identify the victims.
