COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A 13-year-old boy is dead and another teenager is in custody, accused of his murder, the Columbia Police Department said Wednesday.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the victim as Robert Albert Jones IV, The State reported.
Authorities said Jones was stabbed about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses and residents in the area told investigators, according to a news release, “there was an ongoing and isolated dispute between juveniles.”
The dispute escalated with a 14-year-old suspect allegedly stabbing Jones in the chest, authorities said.
The suspect’s name was not released because of his age. He is being held under a juvenile petition at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said. Timmons did not say whether the juvenile has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
