SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Sparks police have arrested a 25-year-old suspected of driving a car into five people on the side of the road, killing one of them.
Juan Pablo Guerrero was booked into the Washoe County Jail Thursday on suspicion of 10 counts, including open murder.
Investigators determined that at about 6 p.m. Wednesday Guerrero intentionally drove a brown Lexus into five pedestrians beneath a railroad overpass on Battle Born Way along the Reno-Sparks line just south of U.S. Interstate 80.
Police say he continued driving with one of the victims on the top of the car for a couple of blocks. Detectives later located the vehicle in Reno. They say the incident apparently began with an altercation between two groups at the nearby Grand Sierra Resort and may have involved an armed robbery.
Two passengers in the car with Guerrero at the time have not been charged but the investigation is continuing.
It’s not clear if Guerrero has a lawyer or will be appointed one.
He was being held without bail Thursday on charges of open murder, four counts of deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm and five counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing death or injury.
