WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - A private settlement has been reached in a West Virginia asbestos lawsuit.

Ohio County Clerk of Courts Brenda Miller and court employees for Judge Ronald Wilson confirmed the settlement, but said details weren’t available, The Intelligencer Wheeling News-Register reported.

The litigation involves 38 mesothelioma and lung cancer cases, according to court records.

Attorneys announced the settlement Tuesday after beginning negotiations on Monday, which negates a trial that had been scheduled for next week.

Wilson had raised concerns about holding the trial with everyone in masks and the threat of the coronavirus and had encouraged a settlement, according to a letter sent to attorneys.
