KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City police say two people were killed in separate shootings Sunday night - one only blocks from where protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis were being held.
That shooting was reported around 11 p.m. in the city’s Midtown neighborhood, about two blocks from demonstrators, police said in a news release. Officers nearby for the protest responded to a report of gunshots and found a man wounded on the ground. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police say three suspects ran from the scene.
Despite some claims on social media, police said, the shooting did not involve police.
The other shooting death happened around 7 p.m. at an apartment complex in the Loma Vista neighborhood, police said. Witnesses told police that the victim had been arguing with another person when that pulled a gun and shot the victim.
Police had not released the names of either victim by early Monday morning, and no reports of arrests in the cases had been made.
