Here’s a thought: If you can campaign for president of the United States from the comfort of your own home, while wearing pajamas — you’re doing it wrong.

Joe Biden might want to take a memo on that.

Former governor-of-Virginia and ex-Democratic National Committee chair Terry McAuliffe might think Biden’s doing just A-OK with his style of seeking the nation’s highest office, nay world’s highest office, from the comfort of his cozy climate-controlled residential walls.

“People say all the time, ‘Oh, we got to get the vice president out of the basement,’” McAuliffe said in a recent gathering before the Norfolk City Democratic Committee. “He’s fine in the basement. Two people see him a day: his two body people. That’s it. Let Trump keep doing what Trump’s doing.”

Democrats in general might want Biden to stay in his cellar.

“Top Joe Biden surrogate Terry McAuliffe told a videoconference meeting of Virginia Democrats … that Democratic officials are broadly ‘preferring’ that Biden stay out of the limelight,” Fox News reported.

But the image Biden is presenting is this: A snowflakey old white dude, scared to face off against Trump, and scaring his own campaign team he might make yet another gaffe — like telling blacks they “ain’t black” if they support this president.

Like saying between 10% and 15% of Americans are “not very good people.”

Like standing up during his basement Skype interview to show his bottom half in pajama pants. ‘Cause nothing says presidential like wondering if the wanna-be presidential guy has footies, right?

It’s a blast from the Barack Obama past, when “Pajama Boy” dominated the news and Americans were told via Special Message From The President to — and this is the BarackObama.com/talk actual ad text: “Wear pajamas. Drink hot chocolate. Talk about getting health insurance. #GetTalking.”

It was all about enrolling in the Obamacare.

And it was all so sweetly and easily mockable. A man-boy in red-and-black checked PJs holding a hot cuppa cocoa — not even coffee, for crying out loud, but child’s cocoa — and smiling a sappy wisp of a smile while gazing wistfully into the distance. Comforted at government’s head-pat; comfortable in his jammies.

That’s Joe Biden.

That’s Joe Biden in his basement, running for president.

He’s become the Democrats’ Pajama Boy, reinvented, reimagined, reshaped for 2020. He’s got his cup of hot chocolate, by gosh-darn — and he wants your vote. Forget the campaign pens; forget the blue donkey buttons.

Joe Biden PJs — or, for Twitter, #JoeBidenPJs — that’s the campaign product that says it all. Pajama Boy for president! There’s a bumper sticker for the Democrat Party’s ages.
