RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County sheriff’s deputies say an armed, suicidal man who barricaded himself in a garage in south Reno shot himself before a 14-hour standoff ended and he was taken to a local hospital where his condition isn’t known.
Deputies say they sent two robotic cameras into the home a few hours into the standoff that began at about 8 p.m. Monday. They say the suspect threatened his brother, pointed a gun at him and subsequently fired a single round from a handgun “in an unknown direction.”
SWAT team negotiators continued to talk with him for the next 12 hours before he was apprehended Tuesday and transported to the hospital.
The man’s name has not been released. The sheriff’s office said he made suicidal statements and gestures during the standoff, and had been named in a temporary restraining order that recently expired.
