The Washington Nationals have postponed their annual homecoming gala event due to coronavirus fears.

The gala was scheduled for March 23 at The Anthem at District Wharf. A make-up date was not announced.

It was going to be the Nationals’ first gala since winning the franchise’s first World Series.

The annual red-carpet event features live entertainment for fans along with a cocktail reception, a dinner and live auction. Last year’s event raised more than $1 million for the Nationals’ Dream Foundation.

As of now, the Major League Baseball regular season is still scheduled to begin three days later on March 26. The Nationals open on the road against the New York Mets and the Miami Marlins before their home opener against the Mets on April 2.
