LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - A police officer fatally shot a woman wielding a knife Sunday night as she tried to stab her mother in Long Beach, authorities said.
The woman was not immediately identified, and Long Beach police have not disclosed why she tried to attack her mother. The officer’s name was not released.
Police were called to the home around 9:45 p.m. Sunday for a disturbance between the mother and her adult daughter, authorities said. Officers did not find any evidence of a crime and left the home.
About 40 minutes later, the mother called police and said her daughter had a knife and was threatening her, officials said.
An officer heard a fight inside and went into the home through a broken window, a statement said. He saw the daughter, armed with a utility knife, trying to stab her mother.
The officer shot the daughter, authorities said. The mother had minor injuries.
