NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) - A New York man threatened to blow up an office building where New York state set up its coronavirus testing command post, authorities said.
Pedro Cheng was arrested and charged Tuesday in Westchester County court with making a terrorist threat, the Journal News reported.
A message seeking comment was left Wednesday with the organization that is representing Cheng.
The building is in New Rochelle, which has had a high number of coronavirus cases and part of which has been identified as a “containment zone.”
Cheng called Monday around 6 p.m. and said he was going “to blow up this (expletive) building with all of you guys inside,” police said in a felony complaint, the Journal News reported.
The complaint did not refer to the coronavirus, and it is not clear whether Cheng knew the health department had operations there.
The building was put on lockdown Monday night following the call and was searched by dogs, but a bomb wasn’t found.
