D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi city councilman and his wife have been arrested on assault charges stemming from a domestic situation over the weekend, a police chief confirmed.

D’Iberville police responded to the home of councilman Robby Ellis and his wife, Chelse Ellis, on Saturday night, Chief Wayne Payne confirmed Sunday. Payne said an officer noted that there were “signs of domestic violence occurring on both sides.” He didn’t comment further on the situation.

The officer arrested both spouses and they were booked on misdemeanor simple assault charges and released, The Biloxi Sun Herald reported. A judge issued a no contact order between the two, the news outlet said.

It’s unclear whether either suspect has an attorney who can comment on their behalf. The councilman didn’t immediately respond to a request from the Sun Herald for comment.
