SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A woman missing in South Carolina over the weekend was found dead in a home Monday some 200 miles (320 kilometers) away near a man who police wanted to question in the disappearance, authorities said.
Celia Marie Sweeney, 28, died from being beaten in the head and her death in a Spartanburg home was ruled a homicide, Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said.
Sweeney was last seen in Charleston on Friday and her car was found empty Saturday night, police said.
Also inside the home was the body of Buddy Allen Carr, 32, who lived there. An autopsy will be needed to determine how he died, Clevenger said in a statement, adding there didn’t appear to be any danger to the neighborhood.
Carr was a person of interest in Sweeney’s disappearance and authorities were sent to Spartanburg to check Carr’s home, Charleston Police said in a statement.
Authorities did not say how Sweeney and Carr knew each other.
The State Law Enforcement Division is helping investigate the deaths.
