ODENTON, Md. (AP) - A Maryland officer accused of assaulting his girlfriend was suspended from his post over the weekend, a police department confirmed.
Jeffrey Morgan, a sergeant assigned to Anne Arundel County Police’s Patrol Bureau, was charged with second-degree assault, the department said in a statement Sunday.
Officers responded to an Odenton home late Saturday on a domestic assault call, where a victim told officers she and Morgan, her live-in boyfriend, got into an argument and he assaulted her. The woman did not need to be taken to a hospital, the department said.
Officers said they believe there may have been another domestic incident involving Morgan and the victim in January, which was not reported. Police did not comment further on the circumstances leading to either alleged assault.
Police said Morgan has worked for the department for 24 years.
