AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine’s spring wild turkey hunting season is starting a couple days early on Saturday, and the rules are slightly different this year.

Hunters who bag a bird this year won’t be required to tag the turkey, and transportation tags are also not required. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife has said the rules are designed to reduce interaction between people during the hunt to reduce spread of coronavirus.

Hunters are also asked to hunt close to home and avoid sharing rides and equipment with people who aren’t members of their households.

The season still ends June 6.
