DERBY, Vt. (AP) - A fugitive wanted for questioning in the killing of his former girlfriend was caught in Vermont trying to cross the U.S.-Canadian border on foot, police said Tuesday.
Corey Ramos, 30, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, was apprehended at the border in Derby Line by Canadian authorities on Monday afternoon, Vermont State Police said. He was wanted in Connecticut for two counts of violating a protective order related to a former girlfriend and for questioning in her death on Sunday at her Bridgeport home, police said.
Ramos has ties to Rutland, Vermont, including a pending criminal case on charges of sexual assault without consent and second-degree unlawful restraint, state police said. He fled Connecticut in a Vermont-registered vehicle that was later found abandoned near the Vermont border with Canada, police said. State and Rutland police were looking for Ramos when he was apprehended, police said.
He waived extradition to Connecticut in a Tuesday court appearance in Vermont. He was being held without bail. It was not immediately known if he is being represented by an attorney.
