STOW, Mass. (AP) - More than 40 new firefighters are joining the ranks of departments across the state.

Forty-two recruits who completed the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s 50-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program celebrated their graduations on Friday.

The graduates spanning three firefighter recruit classes represent departments throughout Massachusetts, including Bellingham, Shrewsbury, Duxbury and Easthampton.



“First responders are on the frontlines protecting their communities and these newest firefighters are needed more now than ever,” Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Director David Evans said in an emailed statement.

Evans said the the academy is taking precautions amid the coronavirus pandemic, including reduced class size, daily screenings and mask requirements.
