TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Another person arrested in a 2018 federal takedown of a heroin distribution ring that operated in central New Jersey pleaded guilty Tuesday.
The U.S. attorney’s office said Daniel McHugh of Sayreville admitted to conspiracy and possession with attempt to distribute cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin.
McHugh is the 13th person out of 15 people charged in November 2018 to plead guilty, including supplier Gregory Gillens and lead defendant Guy Jackson. Gillens was sentenced this month to 10 years in prison, while Jackson is awaiting sentencing.
Authorities said the group distributed narcotics in the Raritan Bayshore area of Middlesex and northern Monmouth counties in 2017 and 2018.
In a separate bust last year, state authorities arrested 32 people involved in an operation in the same area that alleged sold more than 20,000 bags of heroin per month.
The 50-year-old McHugh faces a mandatory five-year prison term and a maximum term of 40 years when he’s sentenced in January.
