NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a teenager has been charged in connection with shots fired at a vehicle that injured a 1-year-old child in New Jersey’s largest city last week.

The 16-year-old youth faces five counts of aggravated assault in the shooting shortly after 2 p.m. last Monday, the Newark public safety department said Saturday.

The city’s public safety director, Brian O’Hara, said a man, two other teenagers and the child were in the vehicle at the time of the gunfire, which he said stemmed from “a senseless dispute.”

Authorities allege that video footage shows a woman pointing a handgun at a group of people with whom she was arguing before the shots were fired. She faces child endangerment, aggravated assault and weapons charges.
