DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Des Moines police officer and three others were injured in a crash of the officer’s squad vehicle and another car, and the driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, police said.

The crash happened Tuesday evening, when the car pulled out of a driveway along Hickman Road and hit the police SUV, Des Moines police said in a news release Wednesday.

Police said the police cruiser had its lights and siren activated at the time of the crash. Officer Angel Perez, two people in the other car and a pedestrian who was hit by flying debris from the crash were all taken to hospitals for treatment, police said. All were later released.

The driver of the car, Ibrahim Lugendo, 24, of Des Moines, was arrested on suspicion of a second-offense OWI, driving without a valid license, failure to yield upon entering a highway and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, police said.
