PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police said Saturday they have arrested a 20-year-old man not previously linked to a fatal shooting stemming from an argument between two customers and a person working at a mall kiosk
Alexi Acosta, the man arrested Friday on suspicion of murder and aggravated assault, was somehow associated with the employee but information on the nature of their relationship wasn’t immediately available, said Sgt. Andy Williams, a police spokesman.
Acosta was arrested after investigators obtained information through witness interviews and surveillance video, a police statement said.
Police previously hadn’t said a fourth person was involved in the Feb. 14 incident at Desert Sky Mall that involved an argument over merchandise. Police also said previously that one victim “displayed a firearm and then both victims were shot.”
Police have identified the customer who was killed as 17-year-old Alejandro Martinez and said the second victim, a 20-year-old man, suffered serious injuries.
The kiosk employee was not injured and police said after the incident that the employee was cooperating with investigators.
Acosta remained jailed Saturday and online court records didn’t indicate whether he had a lawyer who could comment on his behalf about the accusations.
